Test Details: Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) is an oncofetal protein found in fetal liver, fetal gastrointestinal track, yolk sac, and fetal plasma. It is used as a tumour marker to help detect and diagnose cancers of the liver, testicles, and ovaries. Immunohistochemical testing is carried out on resected tissue specimen. This testing helps to identify specific antigens (proteins) within tissue sections utilizing an antigen-specific antibody.
