IHC-E-cadherin
Test Details: Immunohistochemical testing is carried out on biopsy/resected tissue specimen. This testing helps to identify specific antigens (proteins) within tissue sections utilizing an antigen-specific antibody .E-cadherin is a transmembrane glycoprotein, a member of the cadherin superfamily, and the major calcium-dependent cell adhesion molecule of epithelial cells. E-cadherin is a useful marker to discriminate between ductal and lobular breast carcinoma as lobular breast neoplasms lack the E-cadherin expression-cadherin is also used as a marker to differentiate between reactive mesothelial proliferation, usually negative for E-cadherin, and mesotheliomas, mostly positive for E-cadherin.
