EMA is also one of the major components of the mucosal layer protecting gastric mucosa. EMA is highly expressed in different types of epithelial cells mainly glandular epithelium and neoplasms originating from these epithelial types, whereas very low expression level is found in squamous and transitional cell carcinomas.
