Test Details: Detection of cytogenetic abnormalities in AML can aid in the diagnosis of disease and provide prognostic information. Currently, cytogenetic results allow the stratification of patients with AML into three classes: favourable, intermediate and unfavourable according to clinical prognosis that is reported in the literature. So, patients with t(8;21)(q22;q22) [RUNX1/RUNX1T1], inv(16)(p13q22) [CBFB/MYH11] and t(15;17)(q24;q21) [PML/RARA] have a favourable prognosis with good response to treatment and complete remissions. This test is usually used in conjunction with conventional cytogenetic analysis.
