FISH for Inv(3) (MECOM, 3q26) Gene Rearrangement, MDS / AML
Test Details: In myeloid malignancies (acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), chronic myelogenous leukaemia (CML) as well as other myeloproliferative disorders), involvement of 3q26 in balanced rearrangements is highly suggestive of EVI1 and/or MDS1/EVI1 rearrangement. Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) with inv(3)(q21q26.2)/t(3;3)(q21;q26.2) is a distinct clinicopathologic entity with a poor prognosis. Acute Myelogenous Leukaemia/Myelodysplastic syndrome is a group of heterogeneous hematologic conditions with characteristic chromosome abnormalities leading to specific gene rearrangements. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) is a sensitive method to detect smaller genomic changes associated with various haematological malignancies and solid tumours. Chromosomal abnormalities correlate with the prognosis and therapy.
