Test Details: Platelets, also called thrombocytes, are a component of blood.  They are cytoplasmic fragments derived from the megakaryocytes. They function in healing wounds and prevent excessive bleeding by blood clot formation. Platelet count is done as a part of routine complete blood count and measures the average number of platelets in the blood. Platelet count is important in various conditions like Malaria, Dengue, Bleeding diathesis, certain bone marrow disorders, congenital conditions such as in Bernard Soulier syndrome, etc
