P0171
Prothrombin Time (PT/INR)
Test Details: This test is a screening assay to detect deficiencies of one or more coagulation factors (factors I, II, V, VII, X) and to detect coagulation inhibition. It is also used for monitoring intensity of oral anticoagulant therapy when combined with INR reporting. PT test is routinely done in patients presenting with easy bruising, heavy menstrual bleeding, bleeding from nose and to diagnose other bleeding and clotting disorders. This test also helps in estimating the severity of liver disease as factor VII is produced by the liver.
