Reticulocyte count
Test Details: Reticulocyte count assesses the number of new RBCs. i.e. reticulocytes in the body. Reticulocyte are formed in the bone marrow and are released in the blood. If the RBC count is too low in an individual then the bone marrow will start producing more new RBCs i.e. reticulocytes. Reticulocyte count is helpful in making the diagnosis of anemia, bone marrow disorder and certain infections like parvo virus. This is also used in monitoring response to treatment in case of anemia and in bone marrow transplant patient, assessing erythropoietic bone marrow activity in anemia and other hematologic conditions.
