Test Details: Hepatitis A is an acute infectious disease of the liver caused by hepatitis A virus. The virus causes an epidemic and sporadic form of acute hepatitis transmitted by the fecal oral route. RT PCR is used for the detection of HAV. The test is indicated in individuals with liver disease, cell or organ transplant recipients, blood/blood product recipients and health workers with occupational exposure. The assay detects 1000 viral particles per ml of the sample. The specificity of the assay is 97-99%.
