Test Details: Amikacin is the only 2nd line injectable antitubercular (anti-TB) drug still recommended for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) treatment when a short MDR-TB regimen is designed. Previously, intravenous amikacin was classified as a Group B drug and more widely used, with a recommended dose of 15 mg/kg to a maximum dose of 1000 mg/day. However, aminoglycosides at high doses are associated with significant toxicity.
