Test Details: Gram's smear is used to identify microorganisms in normally sterile body fluids, to screen sputum specimens for presence of Gram Positive and Gram Negative bacteria and to guide initial antimicrobial therapy. AFB stain is the gold standard test for diagnosing the presence of Acid-fast bacilli by microscopy.
