Test Details: Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection is of clinical significance primarily in pregnant women, new-born infants with possible congenital infection, immunosuppressed transplant patients and individuals with AIDS. The virus is present in a latent state in about 90% of apparently normal, healthy individuals. CMV is an important pathogen in the transplant setting causing pneumonitis, colitis, hepatitis, CNS disease, neutropenia and disseminated disease.
