Test Details: Dopamine belongs to a category of proteins called catecholamines which function as neurotransmitters. This assay is helpful to confirm or rule out rare tumour of adrenal gland called phaeochromocytoma or a rare tumour outside the adrenal gland called paraganglioma. These diseases are caused due to overproduction of catecholamines by the adrenal gland. This test is done if there are symptoms of persistent or episodic high blood pressure such as headache, rapid heart rate and sweating. This test measures the amount of catecholamines in your blood.
