Porphobilinogen Quantitative Urine, 24 hrs
Test Details: Porphobilinogen (PBG) is an essential component of the heme synthesis pathway. Acute intermittent porphyria is characterized by excretion of porphobilinogen and delta aminolevulinic acid in urine during acute attacks, but not during latency. The test quantifies amount of Porphobilinogen in 24 hours urine to rule out acute intermittent porphyria (AIP) and other acute attack types of porphyrias associated with neurologic and/or psychiatric symptoms

Pre-test Information
Clinical history is mandatory. Time of collection, start time to end time and exclude first urine sample and include last voided urine sample. Many analytes like VMA, 5 HIAA, adrenaline may require drug avoidance as well as bananas, tea , coffee , cold drink avoidance for accurate results and such history to be conveyed to lab.
