Ferritin
Test Details: The Ferritin test helps to determine the total iron storage capacity of the body. It is a protein stored intracellularly in the body. Iron is required to produce healthy red blood cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen from the lungs to various parts of the body. Iron is also important for healthy muscles, bone marrow, and organs, including brain development in children. If a ferritin test reveals that the blood ferritin level is lower than normal, it indicates that the body's iron stores are low and the individual may be suffering from iron deficiency. The Ferritin Test proves helpful in diagnosing or ruling out certain conditions like Hemachromatosis, Liver diseases, Restless leg syndrome, etc. This test is also useful to monitor chronic conditions that may affect body's irons levels, such as cancer, kidney disease, and autoimmune diseases.
