Beta-human Chorionic Gonadotrophin (Beta-hCG)
Test Details: Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) is produced by trophoblastic tissue, tissue typically found in early embryos and later becomes part of the placenta in the pregnant woman. Measuring hCG levels can be helpful in identifying a normal pregnancy, pathologic pregnancy, and is also useful following an aborted pregnancy. There is also a benefit in measuring hCG in a variety of cancers including choriocarcinoma and extra-uterine malignancies, testicular tumours, ovarian germ cell tumours, teratomas and, rarely, other human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG)-secreting tumours.
