Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC)
Test Details: Total iron binding capacity test measures the blood's capacity to bind iron with Transferrin and transport it around the body. TIBC test along with serum iron and percent transferrin saturation tests, is usually performed to detect disorders like Anemia, iron deficiency or iron deficiency Anemia. As liver produces transferrin, alterations in liver function in conditions such as cirrhosis, hepatitis, or liver failure, must be considered when performing this test. It can also be an indirect test of liver function, but is rarely used for this purpose.
